Black Hills Majesty, Part 3

South_Dakota_Tangle_3Talk about a super-long time to wait for a conclusion of a story! As I talked about in the proceeding post, I was MIA for over six months. I hid myself away from the world and took a very long hiatus from all things digital.

Now that I am back, I thought I shouldn’t leave this story unfinished and finally unveil the last chapter of our South Dakota trip we took this past May. So here it is the final chapter of our trip! At least this story will inspire images of what spring can look like once it gets here…

In Part 2 of our South Dakota trip I spoke about bees, trees and other things. Now we come to the final day of our trip.

We spent our last morning packing up and preparing breakfast when we discovered the bees were not done with us yet! (cue ominous music)

While eating our little farewell breakfast in our cabin, lo-and-behold, a little bugger came buzzing on by. By now, I was completely paranoid about getting stung, so I promptly told my husband, “Good Luck” and dashed into the bathroom to take a shower.

While happily showering away my husband announces through the door that he can’t find the bee. As I peaked my head out the shower, I discover much to my horror, that the bee followed me right inside the bathroom! WTF!@!@!!!

PS. My fear of bees are not completely unfounded since I happen to be allergic to them…

So, as I cowered in the shower with the curtain shut tight,  my husband took care of the the little peeping tom.

So without further ado, I dressed quickly, while my husband rapidly finished packing the car, we took one last look at our little cabin from outside and spirited away before another bee could rear it’s ugly head.

I will say that once we started driving away, I started feeling blue that it was our last day in such a beautiful area.

As the sun began to fully rise, we took one last look and photo moment at Mt. Rushmore. It was simply breath-taking as the sun glinted off the trees just striking our national monument.

We continued on our way through South Dakota on the road home. On our way, we visited Fort Hayes which is the reconstructed movie site from the film “Dances with Wolves”. There we were treated to a old-fashioned pancake breakfast served in tin plates with an old-time piano man playing western style tunes in the background. It was quaint and peaceful. We took plenty of photos before leaving the movie site.

We couldn’t leave South Dakota without one more trip through the Bad Lands. Even in the harsh afternoon light it is one of the most awesome sites to behold. I definitely shed a tear or two before leaving this area.

From that point forward, we jetted down the highway to make up the miles before we stayed overnight at hotel before making the last leg of our trip. It was here that I created the last tangle for the trip. I think by then I was at peace so my tile reflects the mood I was in.

We left the hotel int he morning with only one destination in mind – home. The miles and states seem to blur together before we finally pulled up to our little abode. “No matter how dreary and gray our homes are, we people of flesh and blood would rather live there than in any other country, be it ever so beautiful. There is no place like home.” ― L. Frank Baum, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz

BTW – unpacking sucks.

Before I part ways from this story I thought I share some last photos from our trip:

In conclusion, this was by far one of the most magical trips we have taken together. We created wonderful memories that will last a lifetime.

Thanks for sharing in our adventure.

Until next post.
